Overview

Bark + Boarding is a full-service pet care facility established in 1999 with two Virginia locations (Bailey's Crossroads and Manassas). They offer dog daycare, boarding, grooming, training (group and private), structured daycare, and pet taxi services. The facility uses a custom playgroup approach where dogs are grouped by energy level rather than size, age, or breed, and provides all-inclusive pricing with no extra charges for outdoor time, feedings, or medication administration.

What Reviews Say

149 reviews analyzed

Bark + Boarding enjoys overwhelmingly positive reviews with 78% 5-star ratings, praised for caring staff, good grooming, and happy dogs. However, significant red flags include serious grooming injuries, a dog requiring emergency vet care after boarding, overcrowding concerns (100 dogs in one group), and multiple complaints about poor communication when dogs get sick or injured. The owner responds professionally to negative reviews. Recurring issues center on grooming quality inconsistency and communication breakdowns about pet health.

Worth noting

Dog grooming resulted in blunt force trauma to head - blood pooled in ear, ears no longer stand up

Dog grooming appointment resulted in blunt force TRAUMA TO HEAD. Blood pooled in ear and pointy ears no longer stand up.

Dog became severely ill requiring emergency vet care - owner hid behind lawyer/insurance

During a weeklong stay here my dog became so sick I had to rush him to the animal hospital the day after I picked him up, incurring thousands of dollars in vet bills.

Dangerous/verbally abusive manager behavior

The female manager is repulsive she was verbally abusive and very inappropriate. I was in danger of my life.

Overcrowded facility - 100 dogs in one group

On the day I took my dog for a trial day, the daycare group was 100 dogs all together.

Dog contracted kennel cough and pneumonia - no owner notification

We would have expected to have clearer communications around his illness (or to be made aware at all that he was sick) so that we could have made plans to avoid pneumonia.

Nail trim injury - bleeding not communicated to owner

Obi's right hind paw was bleeding profusely... groomer Greg noticed the bleed while grinding his nails and stopped it and Amy who brought Obi back to us did not think it was important to let us know about it.

Grooming quality issues - uneven cuts, wrong style, rushed(8 mentions)

They take forever... Like 4 hours for a ten lbs dog. That's for a haircut that is super uneven on the body, and the legs and paws were still messy.

Poor communication about dog illness/injury(4 mentions)

We were never informed that anything was wrong, except them letting us know he had diarrhea one time at the beginning.

Staff rudeness/inflexibility(3 mentions)

this other lady was very rude said we could not take her and that they texted me and they are big on time.

Overcrowding/safety concerns(3 mentions)

The number of dogs in a group is very unsafe. On the day I took my dog for a trial day, the daycare group was 100 dogs all together.

Appointment cancellations/lack of accommodation(2 mentions)

the morning of my appointment they canceled on me saying the groomer had a medical emergency. And then said the next appointment available is in August a month later.
