What Reviews Say
562 reviews analyzedRover Oaks Pet Resort Houston is overwhelmingly well-regarded by clients, with dogs clearly enjoying their visits and staff receiving consistent praise for genuine care and friendliness. However, the facility has experienced several serious incidents (a near-fatal ingestion case, a dog escape, infection outbreaks) that represent significant red flags. While the majority of 562 reviews are 5-star, the pattern of occasional but severe failures - combined with recurring complaints about pricing and communication inconsistencies - suggests a high-volume operation that may prioritize capacity over consistent quality. Long-term loyal customers (some for 10+ years) dominate the positive reviews, but prospective clients should be aware of the documented safety and service consistency issues.

Staff shoutouts
Worth noting
Dog ingested memory foam bed, staff didn't act for 1.5+ hours, dog had to go to vet - life threatening incident
โOUR DOG COULD HAVE DIED... He began to destroy and ingest his memory foam bed and toys. This was witnessed by staff, and they did not act for over 1.5 hours... We were never notified, nor was he taken to a vet - the ingestion of memory foam is LIFE THREATENING.โ
Dog escaped facility and ran down busy street (West Bellfort Avenue) during daycare
โI saw my dog running down West Bellfort Avenue alongside heavy traffic. Two of the Rover Oaks employees were chasing after him.โ
Dog contracted skin infection and kennel cough at facility, no notification to other owners
โWe took our dog here for a two week board and train and he came back with a skin infection AND kennel cough... we received NO communication back.โ
Understaffing and high volume concerns - 20-30 dogs per kennel tech, aggressive dogs not separated
โThey seem to be pretty understaffed which results in each kennel tech being responsible for the care of 20-30 dogs throughout the day... once in the kennel, many dogs start to exhibit aggressive behavior... Rover Oaks do nothing about it.โ
High prices / value concerns(8 mentions)
โI was between 3 and 4 stars because my dog does love it here but given the exorbitant prices, and hiccups I rounded down.โ
Communication/booking issues(5 mentions)
โWhile our pets always have a great stay at Rover Oaks, communication with booking reps and confirming reservations is TERRIBLE.โ
Inconsistent service quality between visits(4 mentions)
โThis is my 2nd time boarding my dog at Rover Oaks Houston. The 1st time was back in Dec 2022 and I absolutely LOVED... This time I didn't get any reports unless I called or texted. No pictures were sent to me whatsoever.โ
Grooming issues - wrong cut, uneven results(3 mentions)
โI received my Maltese who had the traditional Maltese cut with the bun on top back and she was shaved down to a puppy cut... Why a groomer would cut a traditional Maltese groom to a puppy cut with out asking is beyond me!!!!โ
